Bush to inspect Louisiana hurricane damage Wed.

WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Bush has left Washington for Louisiana, to check on recovery progress in the aftermath of Hurricane Gustav.

Bush will get a briefing at an emergency operations center in Baton Rouge, two days after checking on command centers in Texas as the storm unfolded.

During his speech to the Republican National Convention last night, Bush said he was thankful the damage on the Gulf Coast was less than many had feared. And he urged residents to wait for local officials to give them a green light to return to their homes. The president delivered the remarks to the Minnesota gathering via satellite from the White House.
