RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- Former Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has canceled an appearance at Hofstra University in New York.
Edwards' wife, Elizabeth, had backed out of the event last week, leaving him to speak alone. But Hofstra spokesman Stuart Vincent said Thursday that an agent for John Edwards informed the school Thursday that he would also not attend.
He was scheduled to speak about his experiences over two presidential campaigns as part of a series of events leading up to the Oct. 15 presidential debate at Hofstra.
The former North Carolina senator hasn't spoken publicly since admitting to an extramarital affair a month ago. He's still scheduled to speak at the University of Illinois in October.
Elizabeth Edwards also has multiple speaking engagements still on her schedule.
