Police say Fort Hood soldier killed his lieutenant

KILLEEN, Texas (AP) -- Police say a Fort Hood soldier shot and killed his commanding officer before turning the gun on himself.

Killeen police officers arrived at an off-base apartment on Monday morning after receiving a call about a confrontation there. Police witnessed the Army specialist shooting his lieutenant. The police officers returned fire, and the specialist shot himself in the head.

Police say a staff sergeant also in the apartment was not injured.

The identities were not immediately available. Autopsies have been ordered.
