Workers may be trapped after building collapse

UPDATE 9/10/08 2:58 p.m.: CHESTER, Va. (AP) -- Authorities near Richmond, Virginia, are afraid as many as 12 workers may be trapped after the collapse of a building under construction.

A fire official says 911 dispatchers were told that a dozen workers were inside when a 60-foot section of the building came down at midday.

Crews are trying to stabilize the rubble before going in. They've brought in sound-sensitive equipment to help detect any movements in the collapsed building while they try to shore it up.

Workers at the scene are also being interviewed. The fire official says crews haven't yet confirmed that anyone is trapped.
