Dollar falls, gold rises in Europe

LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar was mostly lower against other major currencies in European trading Friday morning. Gold rose.

The euro traded at $1.4101, up from $1.3951 late Thursday in New York. Later, in midday trading in New York, the euro fetched $1.4164.

Other dollar rates in Europe, compared with late Thursday, included 107.41 Japanese yen, up from 106.73; 1.1354 Swiss francs, down from 1.1393; and 1.0686 Canadian dollars, down from 1.0779.

The British pound was quoted at $1.7704, up from $1.7528.

In midday New York trading, the dollar bought 107.60 yen and 1.1349 Swiss francs, while the pound was worth $1.7878.

Gold traded in London at $757.50 per troy ounce, up from $740.75 late Thursday.
