4 missing, 8 hurt in boat crash on river in Iowa

BURLINGTON, Iowa (AP) -- Officials in Iowa say four people are missing and eight others hurt after a boat collision on the Mississippi River.

The state Department of Natural Resources says two boats crashed about 1:45 a.m. Saturday in the O'Connell Slough area of the river, near Burlington. One of the boats was carrying 11 people; the other had a single passenger.

Authorities say four people are missing. One person was flown to an Iowa City hospital, and seven others were taken to a Burlington hospital. Their names have not been released.

Burlington is in southeast Iowa on the Illinois border, about 200 miles north of St. Louis on the river.
