911 calls describe chaos at Texas cockfight

McALLEN, Texas (AP) -- Frantic calls to emergency dispatchers from people fleeing after masked gunmen opened fire at a Texas cockfight near the Mexican border describe a chaotic scene.

A recording of the 911 calls obtained by The Associated Press details the pandemonium as frightened and wounded people rushed off in all directions. The wild shooting left three people dead and eight wounded early Thursday.

One woman called authorities after receiving a call from her wounded husband. The woman said the critically wounded man didn't know his exact location.

Another woman was at the shooting and was making her escape when she phoned a 911 dispatcher. She said, "There was a machine gun."

Authorities believe the shooting was a sloppy hit on two brothers.

It happened near Edcouch, about 15 miles northeast of McAllen.
