Lima, Peru (WVLT) - Peru government officials now say that at least 337 people were killed after a strong earthquake hit the country overnight.
They say more than 800 are injured.
The earthquake was centered about 90 miles southeast of Lima and was ranked 7.9 on the Richter scale.
It toppled buildings, touched off landslides, and prompted a brief tsunami.
Peru's president declared a state of emergency.
He is also sending help to coastal towns believed to been hardest hit.
