NEW YORK (AP) -- Former Congressman Anthony Weiner says a viral video that shows him engaging in a shouting match with an unidentified New York City man is just an example of him putting a heckler in his place.

Speaking at a Manhattan senior center Wednesday, the former congressman and mayoral hopeful says he responded appropriately in response to vial things said about him.

A 2-minute video shows Weiner going back inside a bakery in an Orthodox Jewish neighborhood earlier Wednesday after someone calls him a "scumbag." (Click here to watch video)

Weiner tells the man it takes one to know one, "jackass."

The man chides Weiner for having the nerve to be in public. Weiner replies that the man is not his judge.

Weiner's support as a Democratic candidate for mayor has collapsed amid a new sexting scandal.
