DEXTER, Mich. (AP) -- More than 100 homes were damaged but no one was injured after a tornado ripped through a rural southeastern Michigan community.

The twister was part of a slow-moving storm Thursday packing large hail, heavy rain and high winds.

Washtenaw County officials say the touchdown was reported in Dexter and Pinckney, northwest of Ann Arbor.

Sheriff's spokesman Derrick Jackson said 105 homes were significantly damaged, and 13 were destroyed.

Unconfirmed tornados also were reported in Monroe County's Ida Township and northwest Lapeer County, near Columbiaville. National Weather Service officials say the storm packed wind gusts up to 70 mph and 2-inch hail.

The American Red Cross of Washtenaw and Lenawee counties expected to open a shelter at Mill Creek Middle School in Dexter. A second shelter also opened in Ann Arbor.
