(AP)--Earth Day picnics on Sunday could make the record books this year.
The picnics were so popular last year on Earth Day that The Nature Conservancy decided to go for the Guinness Book of World Records to recognize food's roots. The group's lead scientist, Sanjayan, says nature provides a lot of things we take for granted, so Earth Day picnics are a way to celebrate food as one of those things.
It'll take 24,000 picnickers to break the record, but Sanjayan says that's really a secondary goal. He says people should just go out and have fun. "The idea is to get as many people out there as possible," he says, "and if we break the record, great!"
