TSA offers security hotline for holiday travelers

(CNN) -- The Transportation Security Administration is trying to be a little more understanding this holiday season.

The agency is offering a hotline for travelers with special medical needs who may require extra help getting through security. It's called "TSA Cares" and is designed to assist travelers before they get to the airport. Agents will answer any questions about screening procedures.

This comes after criticism of the agency's intrusive patdowns and x-rays. There have also been complaints of embarrassing screenings for people with medical issues.

Passengers can call the hotline and have customer service managers coordinate checkpoint support. They and their items will still be screened. The toll free number is (855) 787-2227 and is available Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Eastern Time.
