SUMMERVILLE, S.C. (AP) -- Republican presidential hopeful Fred Thompson doesn't miss a chance to play up his Southern roots in his visits to South Carolina, the first Southern primary state.
The former Tennessee senator did so today by first by stopping by a gun show and then following up with a visit to a barbecue rib house.
Thompson told supporters and other Republicans at the "Sticky Fingers" restaurant that he was happy to be back home.
He was accompanied by his wife, Jeri, his 4-year-old daughter Hayden and 1-year-old son Sammy.
When Thompson told the crowd that Hayden already knew his middle name, the girl piped in -- quote -- "Fred Oh-Eight Thompson."
Thompson joked that his daughter is already jumping in on his punch lines.
