Biden stops at hometown train station

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) -- Senator Joe Biden is on his way to Denver, where he'll accept the Democratic vice-presidential nomination this week.

But before he went to the airport, he made a surprise appearance at the Amtrak station in Wilmington, Delaware, that he's used for 35 years to commute between his home and Washington, D.C.

Biden greeted employees, vendors and travelers, calling them his "family." He visited the station with his wife, Jill, and his security detail.

Although Biden wasn't planning to take any questions from reporters, he did respond to one about his Wednesday night Democratic convention speech. He said it's "all ready."

Biden left the train station to catch a flight to Denver.
