GOP's McCrory says creating jobs is his priority

RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) -- North Carolina Republican gubernatorial candidate Pat McCrory says job creation will be his top priority if elected.

In a new television ad released Thursday, McCrory says state government needs to give North Carolinians more opportunities.

He said that can be done by drilling for oil off the North Carolina coast and lowering the state's high school dropout rate. He also calls for lowering taxes.

The 30-second TV ad is running statewide.

Last week, Democratic candidate Beverly Perdue released an advertisement claiming McCrory is a threat to the middle class because he supports private school vouchers. The TV spot also says Perdue is a "strong supporter of public schools."
