McCain officially announces VP pick

DAYTON, Ohio (WVLT) -- Republican Presidential candidate John McCain has officially announced that he has tapped 44-year-old Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate.

McCain says Palin is the right partner, who has a history of fighting corruption.

He says Palin has been known to reach across the partisan aisle.

UNDATED (AP) -- Two senior campaign officials confirm that John McCain has chosen Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his running mate.

Palin, who's 44, is a self-styled "hockey mom" and political reformer.

The announcement is scheduled at midday in Daton, Ohio.

Palin is a first-term governor credited with reforms of her out-of-the-way state.

Earlier, an associate of Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty said Pawlenty had been informed he's not McCain's pick. Associates close to former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney were saying the same thing.

I don't care if a man is liberal or not, if he is a good man, and a good leader, he will be my pick. Every election, the republicans will tell the people that the democrats don't care about you, that the democrats are nothing but liberals(I hate that word so much, considering I am a registered democrat, gun owner, frequent church goer, and family man) that are out to get your guns. Well, the Democrats are the only ones that really care. They will help the working class, not the republicans, who's only vested intrest is big buisness double-crossing the average voter, and making money off of oil. It's very simple here. Vote Obama, get change. Vote McCain, get 4 more years of the autocracy that this country has had to endure. We cannot survive another republican in office. I can't see why people around here haven't figured that out yet. Oh yes, Reagan started the "religous right" movement, to trick good, christian folk into voting for the more corrupt party of the two.

Apparantly Mr Rodgers has forgot about Reagan.I think choosing Obama as president would be a colossal mistake.McCain has what our country needs-Obama is nothing but a far left liberal who cares nothing about Americans.Vote smart vote McCain Palin 08!

Great, he picked someone with all of 9 years political experience, with only 4 or 5 of them at the top level of state government. At least Obama has a little experience, but not too much. I find it funny that the Rush Limbaugh crowd complains about Obama's experince, but laudes the pick of someone with all of 9 years TOTAL experience to Washington. One of the reasons I hate the republican party. Haven't seen a good one in my lifetime.

Don;t let the left wing media sway your opinion! they are grabbing at straws for anything to make this look bad. this was a total shock and the media looks stupid for not even considering her as a running mate. Comparing apples to a bad orange.... Palin is not running for president. obama is. level the playing field and compare mccain's experience to obamas and palin to biden. What she has done as a political figure in Alaska has far surpased anything he has done or will do for America. he is a carrer congressman who is content to sit on his rear end and get rich on us, the people of the U.S.A. Like all congressmen, he's a millionare, how did he get so much money based on his $80k a year? congress is dirty and the fastest way to fix the country is to fix congress! limit congressional terms, take away the "free check book", tax their slaray and let them depend on social security as their retirement plan! how quick do you think things will change if we could do that?

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." Yeah she has a few black marks against her, but name one politician in power today that doesn't. I think people are rushing to judge her before they even know her, or what she is about. I'm all for her being the VP. In any case at least she isn't a Washington Insider like McCain, Obama, or Biden. She'll bring a fresh perspective to the job of Vice President.

oh and you know he picked a woman simply to pick up Hillary voters right? I cant believe how gullible some people truly are.

"I am not really for John McCain but I think it's about time for a woman in the White House." And this is why we are in the shape we are today. Please do us a favor and stay home if thats the only thing guiding your decision, Let the grown up handle it.

Yes we do want a 44yr old mother of 5 over a career politician running with a fraud. Obama has no experience with being a leader, and screams change/change/change. John McCain picks real change and all the liberals scream foul. Gov Palin is real change, and for me a real breath of fresh air. Wake up America you keep puting libs in office and you still do not have the "good life" The only way to get the good life is to get off your couch and get it yourself, not wait on the Government to take it from those who work, and give it to you. Vote for smaller
