WASHINGTON (AP) -- Republican Senator Chuck Hagel says it's a "stretch" to say his party's vice presidential nominee, Sarah Palin, is qualified to be president.
The Nebraska senator tells the Omaha World-Herald that Palin "doesn't have any foreign policy credentials."
The Alaska governor has visited soldiers in Kuwait and Germany. She's told ABC News that her only other foreign travel has been to Mexico and Canada.
Hagel says other governors have been elected to the White House without previous experience in Washington. But he adds that the job requires "some sense of the bigger scope of the world."
Hagel traveled in July to Iraq and Afghanistan with Barack Obama. He'd been rumored to be a possible Obama running mate, and he had said he'd consider it.
