NC gov candidates cite Jim Black, DOT board member

Democrat Beverly Perdue's campaign attempted Monday to link Republican Pat McCrory to disgraced former House Speaker Jim Black, a Democrat.

A former consultant for McCrory's campaign helped create a legal defense fund on Black's behalf. McCrory called Black a "personal friend" on a TV show the Charlotte mayor hosted in 1999.

Black is now in prison for taking cash from chiropractors.

McCrory called on Perdue to return donations given by Board of Transportation member Louis Sewell and family members. Sewell is being investigated on allegations he steered public funds toward road improvements near properties he owned.
