McCain trying to restart bailout talks

WASHINGTON (AP) -- John McCain is back on Capitol Hill Friday, where he's already met with House and Senate Republican leaders.

This, after Democrats put responsibility on him and President Bush for getting House Republicans back into negotiations for a massive government bailout for Wall Street.

The Arizona senator took part in a meeting with Barack Obama and congressional leaders late yesterday that Bush hosted at the White House. Participants says the talks descended into arguments.

House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank says a deal will depend on House Republicans dropping what he calls "this revolt" against President Bush.

Alabama Republican Senator Richard Shelby says many GOP lawmakers don't like the 700-billion-dollar proposal. He tells CBS the plan is "badly structured" and "does nothing" for stressed mortgage payers.
