Obama adviser suggests Gates as possible holdover

WASHINGTON (AP) -- An adviser to Barack Obama says the Bush administration's defense secretary might be also be a good choice for an Obama administration.

The adviser didn't specifically endorse Defense Secretary Robert Gates for the job. But Robert Danzig did say Gates has shown leadership qualities that an Obama administration would value.

Danzig served as Navy secretary in the Clinton administration and is a senior national security adviser to the Obama campaign. He cited Gates' pragmatic approach and his support for closing the Guantanamo Bay prison camp.

Danzig himself is often mentioned as a possible Obama choice for defense secretary.
