Getting an early start on Election Day

UNDATED (AP) -- The election may be two weeks away but voting in many states is already off to a fast start.

People have begun lining up at polling places in Louisiana, where the early voting period starts Tuesday and runs until Oct. 28.

Voting has already started in states like Texas and Florida. In Georgia, officials say about 12 percent of registered voters have now cast their ballots.

A day after early voting began in Arkansas, officials say the state is on its way to a record turnout.

So far, Nevada Democrats appear to be getting a big jump on Republicans. Officials in Nebraska are noting a similar pattern, as Democrats try to make headway in the solidly red state.
