Clinton Says Ford Is Independent Thinker

Memphis (AP) -- Former President Clinton told a Memphis church congregation that Democratic Senate Candidate Harold Ford Junior is an independent thinker.

Clinton said Wednesday that Ford would not hesitate to disagree with his own party.

Ford faces republican bob corker in next Tuesday's election.

Clinton spoke in Ford's hometown at the 4,500-seat Temple of Deliverance Church of God in Christ, a church in Downtown Memphis.

After the event with Clinton, Ford traveled to Clarksville for a rally with retired General Wesley Clark, a former Democratic presidential candidate.

Ford and Clark spoke to an enthusiastic crowd of about 200 veterans, college students and other supporters at a cold parking lot near fort Campbell.
