Washington (AP) -- Senator Barack Obama is now under the watchful eye of the Secret Service.
It's the earliest ever for a presidential candidate.
A Secret Service spokesman says the Department of Homeland Security authorized Obama's security detail after consultations with the Congressional Advisory Committee.
No word on what led to the extra security.
Among Obama's Democratic rivals, Hillary Rodham Clinton has a Secret Service detail, just like every other former first lady.
