Stamford, Conn. (AP) -- Former Senator Fred Thompson of Tennessee says there's a big disconnect between Washington DC and the people of the United States.
He spoke to the Republican Party's annual fund-raising dinner in Stamford, Connecticut.
Thompson avoided any discussion of a possible White House run and instead delivered a speech attacking Democrats and reminding his fellow Republicans of their GOP roots.
He centered his message on what he called traditional Republican policies of a strong national defense and a limited government.
About 600 guests paid between $250 to $1,000 for a chance to meet Thompson.
