Washington (AP) -- Fred Thompson isn't officially in the race for the Republican Presidential nomination, but a new poll suggests he could really shake it up.
An Associated Press-Ipsos Poll shows former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani leading among the GOP contenders with 27 percent. Then comes senator John McCain at 19 percent and Thompson, an actor and Former Senator from Tennessee, at 17 percent.
Thompson, who may enter the race soon, is ahead of Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts Governor, who has ten percent.
Another non-candidate is in the top tier of democrats.
Senator Hillary Clinton has 33 percent in the poll; Senator Barack Obama 21 percent; former Vice President Al Gore, who isn't a candidate, 20 percent; and former Senator John Edwards, 12 percent.
