Newton, Iowa (AP) -- Arizona Senator John McCain says time is running out on overhauling immigration policy.
The Republican Presidential hopeful says it's still possible to pass a bill. But as he put it, "time is not on our side."
A plan supported by McCain and President Bush fell 15 votes short of the 60 needed in a critical test vote on Thursday. That's led many to declare the reform effort dead.
But McCain says Americans want the issue resolved.
Speaking to reporters in Iowa, McCain challenged opponents of the bill to propose something better.
