KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Tennessee statesman Sen. Howard Baker, Jr., was hospitalized for a day and a half after undergoing a battery of medical tests in Washington, D.C., sources close to the former Senate Majority Leader confirm to Volunteer TV News. He was released from the hospital Friday.

Sen. Baker was not able to attend the University of Tennessee's College of Law commencement ceremonies.

A source, who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak to the media, says Sen. Baker experienced dizziness during an interview with the BBC, and was taken to a hospital in Washington, D.C., by members of his staff.

The source says tests "found nothing."

Sen. Baker's wife says he was hospitalized out of an abundance of caution.

Sen. Baker is 84 years old. He served in the U.S. Senate from 1967 until 1985, and is a former Senate Majority Leader and Ambassador to Japan.
