NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Two bills honoring the memories of Channon Christian and Chris Newsom are heading to the governor's desk.
The first bill, named the "Chris Newsom Act," concerns a judge's role as the 13th juror. The second, named the "Channon Christian Act," would help prevent attorneys from making false statements about victims.
The couple was raped, tortured and murdered in 2007. Juries convicted four people in connection with those murders, but two received new trials after Judge Richard Baumgartner admitted to pill addiction during the original trials.
