KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) -- Knox Co. Commissioners voted unanimously to approve a new development close to the UT campus that developers promise will bring nearly 1,000 jobs, around 600 of which will be permanent. The University Commons project already won the City Council's approval last week.
Developers want to bring a Walmart and Publix, among other businesses, to the old Fulton Bellows site near Volunteer Boulevard. They say it will have a $200 million impact on the area.
Some opponents decried having another Walmart around the corner, while others were against providing tax credits to the developer.
