KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Former Knox County Trustee John Duncan III will have the opportunity to have his felony charge cleared off his record next year.
The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Criminal Court Judge Mary Beth Leibowitz on Thursday granted judicial diversion to Duncan, meaning he can request to expunge the charge if he completes a year of probation without violating any laws.
Duncan resigned after pleading guilty to official misconduct for authorizing bonuses for himself and four other staffers for training that none had completed.
Duncan's father, Republican U.S. Rep. John J. "Jimmy" Duncan Jr., a former Knox County criminal judge, succeeded his own father, John Duncan Sr., in Congress in 1988. The elder Duncan had held the seat since 1964 and was previously Knoxville mayor.
