Knox mayor amends campaign reports before hearing

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Knox County Mayor Tim Burchett has filed 11 amendments to campaign finance reports that are the subject of an upcoming hearing.

The Knoxville News Sentinel reports that Burchett blames ex-wife Allison Beaver for the reporting problems in an affidavit. He claims she transferred thousands of dollars to various accounts for her personal benefit and without his knowledge.

The affidavit was submitted last week to the Bureau of Ethics and Campaign Finance.

Beaver had no comment for the paper on the allegations. She has said that she acted at Burchett's direction.

Burchett's attorney meets Tuesday with the Tennessee Registry of Election Finance to answer questions about the campaign reports.

If board members decide Burchett violated the law, they could assess penalties of up to $10,000 per offense.
