MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- A third trial for a man charged with killing an off-duty Memphis police officer has ended in a mistrial.
The Commercial-Appeal says a Shelby County jury reported about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday that it was deadlocked in the trial of former death row inmate Timothy McKinney.
McKinney was charged with shooting to death Memphis police officer Don Williams in 1997 while the officer was working a private security job.
A jury in 1999 convicted McKinney and sentenced him to death, but three years ago an appeals court awarded him a new trial. The jury in the second trial was also deadlocked.
