MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- University of Memphis campus police issued an e-mail alert to students about an armed robber, but the alert came more than two days after the robbery happened.
University Police say a student getting out her car Friday night was approached by a gunman who grabbed her from behind and demanded her purse.
U of M Director of Security Bruce Harber says students were not notified until Monday because the robbery happened off campus late Friday night. Campus police didn't learn about it until they began a routine examination of incident reports on Monday morning.
Campus police say their goal is to get out alerts as soon as possible.
