MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Memphis police have charged a mother with aggravated child neglect and endangerment after she told authorities she gave her missing baby girl to a stranger.
Police spokeswoman Karen Rudolph says Shakara Dickens also was charged Thursday with false reporting in connection with 9-month old Lauryn Dickens' disappearance. Police are still looking for the baby.
Dickens told police she gave Lauryn to a woman she didn't know on Sept. 7 at the direction of the baby's father, Benjamin Norfleet. Police say the story is not true.
Norfleet is in jail and has told police he knows nothing about it.
Dickens, 19, was arrested Tuesday after police with cadaver dogs searched her apartment. It's not known if she has a lawyer.
