CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Tennessee officials say at least 16 people were injured when a tour bus and car collided near the northbound welcome center on Interstate 75 near East Ridge.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported that the USA Tours bus was carrying 30 students from Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo., home from a trip to Atlanta when it struck a Ford Mustang at about 2 p.m. EDT Sunday.
Students on the bus told the paper the Ford Mustang passed the bus, then swerved around and into the path of the larger vehicle. The impact injured about half the passengers, but the students said they didn't think the injuries were life-threatening.
Hamilton County Emergency Services dispatch said at least 11 people were "not critical."
