Truck Driver Suspected in Serial Killings Pleads Not Guilty

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- An Illinois truck driver who police say confessed to killings in several states pleaded not guilty today to a Nashville murder.

Police arrested Bruce Mendenhall in July and charged him in the death of 25-year-old Sara Nicole Hulbert.

She was found dead with gunshot wounds at a truck stop along Interstate 24 in Nashville.

Mendenhall has also been charged in the murder of another woman in Lebanon, about 25 miles east of Nashville.

Symantha Winters was found shot and her body was stuffed in a trash can in a truck stop there.

Police in Birmingham, Alabama have also filed murder charges against him in the death of 44-year-old Lucille "Gretna" Carter.
