BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Law officers in Alabama, Tennessee and Mississippi will be out in unusually large numbers during Thanksgiving week under a tri-state "Take Back Our Highways" campaign to reduce traffic deaths and injuries during the busy holiday period.
The effort will be formally announced tomorrow in Montgomery, Alabama, at a news conference. Alabama Governor Bob Riley will be joined by highway patrol chiefs from the three states as well as other law enforcement officials from counties and cities.
A news release said all available law enforcement officers from participating agencies will be on patrol duty from November 19th to the 25th.
