NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Police say an 8-year-old boy died from injuries he sustained when he ran into the path of a taxi minivan.
The accident occurred around 2:15 p.m. Saturday on the campus of Vanderbilt University. Police say Max Coppinger Nance was headed to a Vanderbilt football game with the family of a friend.
When the friend's father stopped his vehicle to let everyone exit, police say Max exited the rear passenger side door and ran around the rear of the car into traffic where he was struck by the cab.
He was rushed to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital where he was pronounced dead from injuries sustained in the collision.
Investigators say the cab driver was not at fault.
