Report: Dismissed Knoxville Catholic Teacher Admits She's Pregnant With Victim's Child

Knoxville (WVLT) – A former Knoxville Catholic High School teacher and coach will not go to jail as a result of her guilty plea to statutory rape.

In fact the charge may be one day erased from her record in spite of a report in Thursday’s Knoxville News-Sentinel that Diane Dieterich is pregnant with the victim's child.

Her attorney fought for and won her judicial diversion on Thursday, meaning as long as she obeys conditions set by a Knox County judge, the statutory rape charges will be erased from her record in four years.

Dieterich will be on probation for four years.

She must also regularly attend marriage and sexual counseling and have no contact with the victim.

Dieterich pleaded guilty in September after she was dismissed from Catholic amidst allegations that she was having an inappropriate relationship with a male student.

Isaacs, says everyone worked very hard to do the "right thing" in a wrong situation and Dieterich accepts responsibility for the allegations.

Thursday’s New-Sentinel reported that Dieterich admits she is pregnant with her 17-year-old victim’s child, with a due date of April 29.

"That's a very private situation and that's something they're dealing with, privately, with their families and with their faith,” said Isaacs, her defense attorney. “It's going to be a long journey and I think that's a journey the Dieterich's need to take without input from anybody else."

Again, if over the next four years she follows the conditions set by the judge, the charges will be completely off her record.

Dieterich will next appear before a Knox County judge on November 29, 2011.

Shameful. She should have the same punishment a man would have if he raped a 17 yr. old girl and left her a parent before she was ready for- nor chose to be a parent.

Another news station says since her encounter with him in June she has been depressed. It also says she is 10 weeks pregnant if my math is correct the baby might not be his. If the encounter took place in June and she is pregnant she would have to be about 4-5months not 10 weeks. Am I right? Was there another encounter that we do not know about?

She is supposed to be the adult. Why was she so irresponsible as to get pregnant?

"17-year-old victim" At first I thought this was an incredibly PC statement, but I've come to the realization it's satire that far surpasses my intellectual capabilities; the luckiest kid ever became a "victim" when he found out she was pregnant.

What a crock!! This an offense that requires registration as a sex offender for the rest of her life. How is that fair to others who have register or go to jail??Most all sex offenders are treated the same, no matter what the offense, why should she be any different?

I wonder if that 17 year old boy will be responsible for child support, for the next 18 years!
