E. Tenn man indicted for assaulting officer

ROGERSVILLE (WVLT) – A Greene County man has been arrested by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation after he was indicted by a Hawkins County Grand Jury for assaulting a police officer.

It happened on November 3, 2007 in Rogersville.

Police say Joseph Fortenberry, 21, was charged with aggravated assault, evading arrest, driving on a suspended license after fleeing a routine traffic stop on Colonial Village Drive.

According to investigators, Fortenberry tried to run over Rogersville Police Officer Ken Ferguson during the stop.

He has been booked into the Hawkins County Jail, where he remains on a $25,000 bond.
