CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A school resource officer found an unloaded handgun in the pocket of a former student who was arrested with another former student inside Hixson High School.
Hamilton County Sheriff's Sgt. Max Templeton says investigators did not know why the gun with a scraped-off serial number was being carried at the school Wednesday. No ammunition was found.
Kenny A. Hall and Derrick L. Jones, both 18-year-old former Hixson High students, were in custody on $300,000 bonds.
Templeton also said Hall and Jones were using a vehicle that had been reported stolen and contained a substance believed to be cocaine.
The school was locked down for almost an hour.
