2 Madison County deputies involved in shooting

JACKSON, Tenn. (AP) -- Two Madison County deputies were involved in the shooting of a fleeing fugitive in Jackson.

The Jackson Sun reports authorities attempted to serve a warrant on the fugitive at a Jackson gas station at about 2 p.m. Tuesday.

He drove away but was confronted by members of the Gulf Coast Regional Task Force, who shot at him as he tried to flee.

Both the fugitive and a woman who was in the car with him were arrested and transported to the hospital.

Authorities declined to release their names or charges.

Deputies Nathaniel Shoate and Andy Smith participated in the arrest and were involved in the shooting. They were being placed on routine administrative leave with pay while the shooting was investigated.
