Son of West Tennessee sheriff shot to death

RIPLEY, Tenn. (AP) -- Three young people remain in jail on charges of slaying the son of Haywood County Sheriff Melvin Bond.

Brian Bond, 28, of Brownsville was found shot to death early Saturday in the emergency lane of Highway 19.

Prosecutors said Terry Copeland, 21, and Sequna Copeland, 19, his brother, were charged with first-degree murder. Ranard Webster, 19, was charged with facilitation of first-degree murder. All are from Lauderdale County.

No motive was released. Bonds were set at between $125,000 and $250,000.

    Yes, its sad that a life was taken, but I'm sure there was a reason to why they were shooting at him. It wasn't surprise me if it was behind drugs since that what he sold and smoked. People kill me always wanting to talk about how good and nice a person was while they were living but what about the negative he was doing that no one tried to persuade him to stop doing while he was living.

    The guy that was killed is my best friend's brother. It's a shame that these young boys did this. Its a good thing they were caught because I would hate to see who would have gotten them had they not. I hope they get whats coming to them. Not just because the were stupid enough to kill the sherrif's son but because they took a life.
