2 Nashville firefighters hurt in apartment fire

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Two firefighters have been hurt containing an apartment fire in a northern Nashville neighborhood after a child playing with a lighter set a mattress on fire.

WSMV-TV reported the flames erupted late Thursday night. Families escaped without injury from the downstairs apartment where the fire began and the one above it, but the building was heavily damaged.

Two firefighters were taken to Vanderbilt University Hospital. Department officials said one hurt a shoulder when he fell through a hole. Another received burns to his hands.
