CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- Two of the Tennessee Aquarium's beluga sturgeon, brought to the United States from the former Soviet Union in 1976, have died.
During a post-mortem examination it was determined that Boris was actually a female carrying 17 pounds of roe. That caused an infection that spread through her body. She died on Saturday.
Horace died on Sunday of kidney failure, likely brought on by age or kidney disease.
Boris and Horace were to be part of the aquarium's new River Giants exhibit.
They were brought to the U.S. in a small cooler but had reached nearly 7 feet by the time of death.
