CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) -- A Hamilton County paramedic has been disciplined for his role in transporting a patient who was found hanging upside down at a ropes challenge course in Chattanooga.

The patient, 57-year-old Melvin Davis, remains in critical condition. He told a hiker who found him Thursday that he had been hanging upside down for two days at Greenway Farm.

The Chattanooga Times Free Press reported that county officials had placed county paramedic Timothy Waldo and an emergency medical technician on unpaid administrative leave, related to medication that was given to Davis.

County human services administrator Don Allen declined to provide details.

A statement Wednesday said Waldo has been suspended 28 days without pay and demoted to EMT and will undergo training at his own expense. The EMT who was also earlier placed on leave was "absolved" and returned to work Wednesday.

Davis' children requested privacy.
