MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Construction work has started on upgrades at the Liberty Bowl with work expected to be completed by the University of Memphis' 2009 football home opener.
The work includes the installation of new locker rooms and improving gate access to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act at the 43-year-old stadium.
In November, some four years after a facility assessment said the Liberty Bowl was nearing obsolescence, the Memphis City Council appropriated general obligation bonds totaling $1,861,300 for construction of new locker rooms and $125,000 for furniture, fixtures and equipment.
