Marine reservists being activated

JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (AP) -- Military officials have notified a northeast Tennessee U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Unit it is being activated.

Members of Lima Company, 3rd Battalion, 24th Regiment have been told they will be activated this spring and deployed in the fall.

The Johnson City Press reports this will be the unit's third deployment to the Middle East.

Capt. Nathan Braden, a spokesman for the Marine Corps Reserve, said reservists will be called up for about 13 months.

The unit is based in Gray, Tenn. and was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and again in 2007.

During the latter deployment, Lance Cpl. Jonathan Thornberry of Floyd County, Ky., was killed in the al-Anbar province.
