Court martial of soldier in Iraqi detainee death

FORT CAMPBELL, Ky. (AP) -- A Fort Campbell soldier charged with premeditated murder is scheduled to face a military jury at Fort Campbell on a charge of premeditated murder in the death of an Iraqi detainee.

Court martial proceedings for Staff Sgt. Hal Warner of Braggs, Okla., are set to begin at 9 a.m. CST Wednesday.

Warner is charged with premeditated murder, accessory to murder, assault, obstruction of justice and making a false official statement. Prosecutors accused Warner of setting fire to detainee Ali Mansour Mohammed's body with an incendiary grenade.

A second soldier, 1st Lt. Michael Behenna of Edmond, Okla., also faces a charge of premeditated murder. His trial is scheduled for later in the month.

They face a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole if convicted of premeditated murder.
