45th Civil Support Team honored at luncheon

SMYRNA, Tenn. (AP) -- A specialized Tennessee National Guard unit will be celebrated on Thursday with a luncheon in Smyrna.

The 45th Civil Support Team (Weapons of Mass Destruction) is being honored on its 10th anniversary.

Maj. Gen. Terry "Max" Haston, Tennessee's adjutant general, called the 45th a priceless asset to the state.

The soldiers and airmen who make up the team are trained to assist in civil emergencies in the event of possible incidents involving weapons of mass destruction. They are trained to respond to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear incidents.

The 45th is one of 57 such units across the country.

The luncheon is for current and former members and invited guests.
